YAPI February News and Notes
by McCoy Genfan
YAPI (young artist performance incubator) is a family event created
and run by Brenda Freed as a service to the Wimberley community.
Recently Brenda has been having youth doing more jobs, like MC-ing,
photography, sound/running the soundboards and people like ME
writing for the website.
In February’s YAPI we had a very big crowd - a total of 11 acts
and 13 performers. We were seeing anything from “The Pink Panther”
on piano from Alex Denslow (12) to a duet on the guitar with
Clinton Quinn and Jay Butera (both 11). We had fantastic photography
from Eliza Van Overschelde and a great MC job by Elisia Hartin.
There was also a wide age range in the talents at YAPI, for example
we had: Haley Schake (7) playing on the piano and Kayla Sosa
(18) singing with piano accompanied by Brenda. We also had siblings
performing, including Hannah Schake (10) playing the piano (sister
of Haley Schake) and Irie and Will Farr (11 and 9) who both sang.
And at the end of YAPI we had Spensor Dodson and Albanie Falleta
(both 17) playing guitar together.
All in all this month’s YAPI was superb.
Also YAPI needs volunteers to: put up posters around the Wimberley
area, help people get signed up to perform or to get on the YAPI
mailing list, MC YAPI for the night and people to help run the
sound system. If you feel you would like to volunteer for any
of these please contact Brenda Freed at Bfreed1@earthlink.net
or call 512-847-1022.
See you all for March YAPI, Thursday, March 1, 6pm-8pm, at Maui
Wowi, in Wimberley! Get your acts together and come out for some
fun!
