YAPI Notes from May 2004
Although only 2 people performed,
the chairs were filled with a great audience of family and friends. Thanks to everyone
for coming out! Please continue to spread the word about
YAPI. YAPI provides a safe and supportive environment for
young people who want to explore performing.
YAPI May News
2004 YAPI Award winner, Ellen Flocke and
her band, Ellen’s
Brother, completed their awarded demo recording at Moondance
Studio May 2nd. With Michael D’Eath in the engineering
chair Ellen’s Brother recorded 3 original songs by Ellen
Flocke on guitar and vocals. Other band members include
Allison Lockett on bass, Walker Pickens on keyboard and Karl
Flocke on drums. Congratulations to Ellen’s Brother and
best wishes in the future.
Now that the weather is warmer YAPI has been moved outside to
the Idlewild deck which means drums are permissible. We look
forward to hearing Ellen’s Brother with Ellen’s brother,
Karl, on drums for the first time at YAPI in the near future.
Congratulations to Sahara Smith, age 15, who was a charter YAPI
performer, performing in the first 3 YAPI events last year. Sahara
was one of six acts between the age of 12 and 20 who performed
and competed in NPR’s Prairie Home Companion young talent
contest May 8 (and aired again on May 9). Sahara placed
2nd in the competition. Go Sahara! And
please come perform for us again at YAPI!
See ya’ll June 3 at the next YAPI!
