Wimberley singer-songwriter Brenda Freed will celebrate the release of her new CD, Sort It Out, at a series of area release parties this week. Sung with abundant passion and commitment, the ten original songs on Sort It Out look at the nuts and bolts of love from every conceivable angle: from true-to-life lyrics of the title cut "Sort It out", to the love-seeking "Wish I May", to the tongue-in-cheek "I'll Be Damned" to the playful excitement in "Trouble" to the comforting "Faith Healer". Sort It Out features the nuts and bolts of the Brenda Freed Band: Tim "Chainsaw" Harden on electric 12-string bass, Merel Bregante on drums, Val Roessling on electric lead and Freed on vocals and guitar. Sort It Out follows on the footsteps of Freed's highly successful debut CD, Until Daylight, also made in collaboration with Roessling and Bregante. Freed's extraordinary versatility and range have made her a regular on the Texas music scene since she arrived in the Hill Country in 1991 by bicycle after a 9,000 mile ride. Now, she is broadening her horizons, enchanting audiences throughout the Southwest, Midwest, and New England with her powerful songs and her vocal range. She was recently nominated for the "Rising Star" Humbie Award sponsored by Humbletime Productions in the Hill Country. Freed also has a knack for attracting exceptional musicians to her side. Guitarist Val Roessling, with twenty years of professional credits under his belt, first heard Freed's music in 1996 and has performed with her ever since. In 1999, she assembled a full band, their unbridled enthusiasm is reflected in the "polished spontaneity" of their live performances. Nine of the ten songs on the CD are co-written by Freed, with JB Braden penning the ballad "Ships." Tonight's release party at the Triple Crown in San Marcos will kick off a four night string of area gigs with no cover charge. CDs and limited edition t-shirts will be available for sale. Thursday night, the festivities move to Wimberley, for an 8 p.m. gig at the Water Hole at Woodcreek Lodge. Friday night, the band plays at the Saenger Hall in New Braunfels (8 p.m.) and finished the run in San Antonio at Casbeers Saturday night beginning at 8 p.m. Details of the Austin CD release party are to be announced.
